Title: JaratkaruLanguage: EnglishGenre Specifics–Mythological Fiction-Novel.Publisher: Evincepub Publishing (2023)ISBN: 9789356731356Formats : Kindle Edition-150/-, Paperback-375/-, Hardcover-455/-Style : Narrative (Contemporary, Informal) The Author: Dr Priya Dandage is a doctor by profession and a writer by passion. She has a BHMS, DCJ, and CCCT. She has been writing since her teenage and has won numerous writing contests. She has also contributed essays and stories in Marathi to top publications. She is a gifted speaker and a devout zoophilist and works for the rural women’s NGO Swayamsidha. The Title: Jaratkaru: Central character. The Book Cover: Pivotal and has a hands-on woman-centric theme. The Theme: The women from Mahabharata praised and written about were either Brahmins or Kshatriyas. Jaratkaru, despite her sacrifice and devotion, remained unknown to many people. The author has picked up her inspiration from her character. When King Janmejaya announced Sarpa Satra-a sacrifice that would destroy all living serpents, nobody came forward to help the Nagas. A genocide, the first of its kind in the kingdom of Aryawarta. The storyline is engagingly woven around princess Jaratkaru. Her awe-inspiring courage, selfless determination, and how she sets out to save her clan from the inevitable doom. It takes on from the back story—Arujuna burning Khandav Vana to build Indraprastha. In that inferno, the King of Nagas, Takshaka, lost his kingdom, people and beloved wife, Ikshumati. He vowed to take revenge. After years, Takshaka succeeded in poisoning king Parikshita, grandson of Arjuna. Janmejaya, Parikshita’s son, vowed to wipe out the Naga clan. He attempted this by performing a great Sarpa Satra. The inevitable looming large, Takshaka, the Nagaraja, went to Indra’s kingdom to save his life and to prevent an attack on his new kingdom Takshasheela. Vasuki, king of nagas, went to Brahmdeva to consult about the looming calamity upon the Naga kingdom. Brahmdeva suggested Vasuki get his sister, princess Jaratkaru married to two hundred years old sage Jaratkaru. Brahmdeva told Vasuki that king Janmejaya was in debt to sage Jaratkaru and that sage’s son from this marriage will end Sarpsatra. Following Brahmdeva’s advice, Vasuki proposed this marriage to his darling sister, who was just seventeen. Jaratkaru initially refused the proposal but later came forward with the proposal to save her clan. The Narration and Style: The author has told the story in the limited third-person POV. The language is simple and told in a narrative style that seems conversational. Whose read: With its simplistic approach, the book can be enjoyed across age groups. However, anyone looking for Mythological Fiction must go for it. Not as much: There is nothing left out in the book as it has some in-depth research and a meticulous ensemble of events. A well-balanced mix of dialogue and narration leaves no room for comment. My appraisal: The review is based on the specific genre to match it evenly. Narrated in the third-person POV. Written in a contemporary Narrative style built on a mythological framework. The book revolves around the female protagonist Jaratkaru and deserves to be read by bibliophiles across genres and niches. Having read and enjoyed the book, I don’t hesitate to recommend it to my mythological fiction aficionados, and neither would you. Must grab your copy and check it out, folks! End Note: Many man hours, hard work, emotions, love, care and in-depth musing have been put into writing the book; kudos! Thank you, Dr Priya, for giving us a fantastic book. Keep up the excellent work. Cheers! Drop in your comments on this review. Ciao! – Bobby George

Book Review: Concept to Commissioning by D. Ravichandar
From the author of the Book on Maintenance for Profitability comes yet another informative and interesting though highly technical read. Concept To Commissioning is a book about the author’s own life experiences working and executing the projects at hand during his tenure in various steel plants as a professional engaged in overseeing the financial and technical matters that will ensure the proper running and functioning of the steel plant, basically a role of a project manager that is quite challenging as it requires the need for both technical and management knowledge.
‘Marriage in Heaven: A Social Drama’ by M K Devidasan – Book Review
“Marriage in Heaven: a social drama” by M K Devidasan is a novel that explores the themes of love, family, duty, and sacrifice through the lens of Wing Commander Krishnan, the protagonist. The novel takes us on a journey through the life of Krishnan as he navigates the challenges that come with the unexpected death of his father and the loss of his family’s factory. Through the story, we see how he is forced to take on the responsibilities of supporting his family and how he rises to meet the challenges with determination and grace. At the same time, the novel also introduces the readers to real life situations that may not necessarily be as we plan and may have a turn of events that would change their lives for good. One of the strengths of the novel is the rich character development of the protagonist, Krishnan. In “Marriage in Heaven: a social drama,” we see him grow from a carefree young man to a responsible and caring individual who is willing to put the needs of others before his own. Through the story, we see how he navigates the complex relationships with his family and friends, including his ever-helpful uncle, retired Deputy Superintendent of Police Mukesh, and his undying love for a lady doctor from a different religion. The author does an excellent job of capturing the emotional struggles and triumphs of Krishnan as he learns to balance his duty to his family with his personal desires and beliefs. This struggle to maintain a balance while also keeping his desires in check and in control makes Krishnan a realistic character that is genuine, caring, concerned and driven towards the betterment of the people around him. Devidasan’s novel also explores the themes of love, family, and sacrifice through the relationships between the characters. The bond between Krishnan and his sister’s children is especially touching, and we see how he is willing to put their needs before his own. While this is a less appreciated aspect in the real world, “Marriage in Heaven: a social drama” makes the readers ponder over the sacrifices that people make for them and relate this with the world around them. The love story between Krishnan and the lady doctor is also well-crafted, and we see how their love must navigate the challenges of different religions and societal expectations. Despite all odds, their silent battles on an individual level reinforce the faith of readers in relationships and the effects that constant efforts can have. Through these relationships, the author shows how love, family, and sacrifice can bring people together and help them to overcome even the toughest obstacles. Another strength of the novel is the rich cultural context in which it is set. The author does an excellent job of capturing the cultural, religious, and social norms of Indian society, and we see how these norms play a role in the lives of the characters. By the infusion of religious clash in the novel, the author depicts the true sense of Indian life and attempts to write the stories of the many who have suffered in the name of religion. Through the story, we see how tradition and customs shape the relationships between characters, and how the characters themselves must navigate these cultural norms in order to find happiness and fulfillment. This battle despite all odds is another defining feature of “Marriage in Heaven: a social drama.” Every individual has their share of struggles and hard work. But their desire to keep going in the face of challenges becomes the highlighted feature. The author depicts the title through the novel and shows how marriage as a social institution is prone to all kinds of social drama, despite its being harped upon as a the joining of two souls in union. “Marriage in Heaven: a social drama” is a novel that will resonate with readers of all ages and backgrounds, and is highly recommended for those who enjoy stories about love, family, and sacrifice. The situations depicted by the author are closely related to life on the whole, inspired and deeply rooted in it and often remind the readers of its unpredictability. In that sense, the tale can be perceived as a tale of love, a work of social cause, a silent revelation of an individual who happily accepts everything while keeping his needs aside. At the same time, Krishnan also becomes a representative of the many who, just like him, keep their lives on hold for the well being of others close to them. While this is a characteristic which is routine in the lives of men and women, it mostly goes unsaid and unsung. The novel will make the readers think and look at the world from the perspective of a handful of those people as everyone will find someone around them. Buy Book: Amazon Link
Interview with Author Aditi Pant
A postgraduate from the University of Delaware, USA, Aditi Pant is an award-winning educator, columnist, author and poet. Her debut, Zen on the go, a collection of succinct, soulful, spiritual stories garnered much acclaim and was on the Barnes and Noble reading list. The book was also on the bedside table of almost everyone who read it, a quick ready reference to life and living. Just to shake things up, she then wrote, The turning of seasons, a novel that seamlessly blends prose and poetry in a poignant tale of love and loss. When Aditi is not writing she can be found reading, teaching, cooking and what can only be described as multitasking while drinking legions of tea. Aditi lives in Sugar Land, Texas, with her husband and their two daughters. Let’s talk with Aditi Questions: The Rise Insight: What is your objective of writing this book? Aditi: The aim of the book is simple; finding meaning and happiness in quotidian occurrences. The Rise Insight: Who inspired you to write this book? Aditi: Life, my parents, my husband, my children, my family and my friends. The Rise Insight: What kind of books do you enjoy reading? Aditi: I enjoy a wide variety of books, genres and writing styles. I love the play and interplay of words and ideas. Poetry, reflective narratives, historical fiction, the quiet haiku style, the flagrant, the biting and works with pathos appeals to me the most. Mirza Galib, Sarat Chandra, Dharmavir Bharati, Daphne du Maurier, Colleen Mc Collough, Eric Segal, Haruki Murakami, Kazuo Ishiguro, Ocean Vuong, Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni are some of my favourite writers. The Rise Insight: Tell us a bit about your previous publications. Aditi: Zen on the go is very similar in terms of style and content to The Zen Heart; a compilation of wonderful little stories. A turning of seasons is my first novel and very close to my heart. It’s rather experimental and interesting as it blends prose and poetry to bring forth a poignant love story. The Rise Insight: What kind of research did you have to do to write this book? Aditi: I did no particular research as such. Whatever intrigued me, whatever I read and experienced became a part of this book. The Rise Insight: What are your forthcoming books? Aditi: I’m writing a novel called You, Me and Us which I feel will be an exciting read as it’s epistolary, romantic, mysterious and real. The Rise Insight: Would you call this book a work of nonfiction? Aditi: It’s an amalgamation of fiction and nonfiction. The Rise Insight: How often do you write? Aditi: Well, I write something daily. Not a day without a line is my mantra too.
Book Review: The Zen Heart by Aditi Pant
Matters of the heart are best known to the heart. However, as it pulsates through the ups and downs of life it ought to align with the ongoings of the body and mind. It is not always easy to find this agreement and this is where The Zen Heart comes in. From the author of A Turning of Seasons and Zen On The Go, The Zen Heart is a rather contemporary and clean take on the modes and means that best ally the heart and the mind. One highlight of this book is the romanticised take on the relationship between man and nature, where nature becomes solace, support and sanctuary. The author gently persuades readers to reignite their connection with nature to bring harmony into their lives. Although we’ve perhaps read or heard these before, the author’s take and writing style makes them new again. Sometimes candid and sometimes ambiguous, these stories find a way to move you as they are laced with empathy, simplicity and truth. The author gives us glimpses of her life which mirrors our own and we know that the connection we feel with the author and the stories is real. This is no ordinary self-help book as it gently exposes life to you in its myriad forms without being didactic. It urges you to draw your own conclusions and make of the stories what you will. The author’s eye for detail, philosophical outlook, sense of gratitude and deep connection to the essence of her being and the world at large resonates with us as we move from one story to the other. Deep and cosmic concepts are explained using a simple writing style that makes it easy for the reader to grasp and imbibe these ideas. Each story is a gem, or lets say a pearl perhaps, as it empowers us by throwing light upon the fact that happiness is not just within our reach but actually a by-product of our thoughts and actions and a life lived well. The author displays a fantastic ability to be conversational, lucid, reflective, profound and sententious at the same time which makes The Zen Heart a refreshing, enjoyable and informative read. Don’t Build Your School Brand Without Us by Rakesh Gupta, Sumit Handa – A Must Read Book Launched – Review
Coming from the experts who are knowledgeable, skilled and trusted in their fields, this book is a must read for all stakeholders in educational institutions, particularly those involved in setting up and running a school. The book comes with a simple cover but the title highlights the key aspects of the book in bold and clear font. It is an engaging read about the how and why of the school system from those who know it better than anyone else which serves as reason enough to read this book. As a work of non-fiction, this book brings the anecdotes from real life experiences to the forefront from which managing directors, funding agencies and stakeholders of schools can take a lot of ideas and expert advice. However, the book is not solely didactic but rather persuasive in the manner in which it provides new ideas to instil in the reader a love for the school system, to understand the needs and requirements of setting up a fully functional and successful school in today’s India. This is where the concept of marketing comes into play. The authors argue that while most people pick up traditional marketing methods such as advertising through newspapers or banners or hoardings, these methods don’t necessarily always bring about the kind of large traffic that is hooked on to the internet these days and is more engrossed in their gadgets. The authors note that while most people who are in the business of running schools know the challenges, they barely understand the strategies to overcome these challenges. They may know the ‘why’ but do not know the ‘how’ and this is what makes things difficult and complicated in the long run. The authors immediately deduce the need and the rationale behind building one’s own brand and this book is an outcome of having worked with founders of several schools like Rajsekhar Yarlagadda and Naga Prasad Tummala of Oakridge International School who are well known and reputed in their own way now. Hence, this book is an outcome of having gained hands on expertise in working with the sales, marketing, operating and management of schools over the course of time that has helped the authors frame a strategy to build a brand for the schools in a methodical and scientific or strategic way that will guarantee success. In this debut book, there is the model that the authors have successfully implemented in their career as brand creators across various institutions in the education sector. These institutions include a play school, K-12 school, junior college, online school. This model of theirs, as claimed by the authors is highly practical and sustainable as it is based on scientific evidence, transparency and reliable policy making that over the course of time allows both the institution and those associated with it to grow, rise and shine individually and collectively. At over 190 pages, this book is a practical guide and serves as a handbook of sorts full of real life ideas, easy to comprehend views and logical reasoning that makes it a must read for those to whom it is applicable. ‘The book ‘Don’t Build Your School Brand Without Us’ also has additionally presented its branding toolkit that is highly important and easily accessible making this book a one of a kind work of non-fiction in managing and marketing educational sector businesses. While the anecdotes used in the book help to explain a situation more clearly and create a better understanding of the real life problems at hand, how to face them and how to overcome them, it is the case studies that are detailed, specific to issues and present a variety of circumstances that readers will find useful, informative but also serve as key learning experiences. As they say, everything cannot be experienced by a single individual. One must learn from the lives of those around them and make the most of other’s experiences. These case studies do just that. They add variety to the text, create a new learning experience and give an idea about how others have overcome their challenges by strategically looking at the low points or what seem like failures to turn them into high points and success stories. Hence, branding becomes a science, a strategy, something that has a manner and technique which requires understanding, studying and proper execution. Team work is another aspect that branding is all about and being a team player may not come easy to all but it is a quality that one needs to inculcate over time. Apart from these, the pro tips on branding create a unique reading experience that looks at the quick highlights of this process and presents a new way of undertaking the concept of branding one’s educational business. The book ‘Don’t Build Your School Brand Without Us’ also presents several infographics and templates that are highly applicable to the branding of the school scenario in particular. The writing style is easy to follow with minimal technical terms, bulleted points, pictorial representations as and when needed and proper explanations that makes this book an educational and engaging read. Book Review: Whispers of a Snowfall by Rashika Ranjini
Winter is often portrayed as a cold, harsh season, but in Rashika Ranjini’s latest poetry collection, “Whispers of a Snowfall: Celebrating the Pensive Beauty of Winters,” she offers a unique perspective on this often-neglected season. Through her delicate and lyrical writing style, Ranjini captures the melancholic beauty of winter and explores the complex emotions that the season can evoke. The result is a powerful and thought-provoking collection of poetry that will leave a lasting impression on the reader. Through her collection, the author not only spell bounds the readers but uses her world to convey a depth of thought that comes through the minimal words that she uses. One of the standout features of this book is the author’s use of vivid imagery and sensory details. In each poem, Ranjini transports the reader to the world of winter, where the snow whispers secrets and the cold wind stirs the soul. Her descriptions of the winter landscape are both beautiful and haunting, painting vivid and memorable images in the reader’s mind. For example, in the poem “The stranger seller at Snowslope,” she writes: “We’ve got some lovely joy capsules/ He offered, “I’ll give you a fine price.”/ “I’d rather have some lunacy pills,” I replied..” The use of imagery and sensory details in this poem and others like it sets the tone for the rest of the collection and provides the reader with a glimpse into the pensive beauty of winter while keeping the readers fixed on the happenings of the life of an ordinary human. “Whispers of a Snowfall” has such poems that take them to the lands of wonder. Even though the world she depicts is inspired by reality, yet it seems to be set in a different world altogether. But poems like “The stranger seller at Snowslope” keep the readers fixed on the present world. Another strength of this book is the author’s ability to explore complex emotions through her writing. Whether exploring themes of solitude, loss, or renewal, Ranjini’s poems are infused with a sense of introspection and contemplation. Her words flow seamlessly, painting vivid and memorable images in the reader’s mind, and her delicate and understated use of language is truly a joy to behold. Every poem captures the sadness and finality that can accompany the winter season but also hints at the promise of renewal and a fresh start. Moreover, through her words, the author paints a landscape that is run by the merriment of winters and transports the readers to the snow-filled landscapes that send cool breezes through the text. Ranjini’s writing style is both lyrical and poignant, and her verse has a musical quality that is both calming and haunting. The poems in this collection are often short and to the point, but they pack a powerful punch, leaving a lasting impression on the reader. The author’s delicate use of language, combined with her insightful observations, make this book a must-read for fans of poetry and introspection. “Whispers of a Snowfall” is one of the few poetry collections in its league that reaches the readers through its simplistic style that is accompanied by grandeur, grace, and a different perspective on winters and their meaning for the author. This meaning eventually becomes the same for the readers too, as they connect with the author’s words and begin to see the winter full world through her eyes. In conclusion, “Whispers of a Snowfall” is a beautifully written and thought-provoking collection of poetry that offers a fresh perspective on the winter season. Rashika Ranjini’s lyrical writing style and insightful observations make this book a must-read for fans of poetry, winter, and introspection. Whether you are a fan of winter or simply looking for a thought-provoking read, “Whispers of a Snowfall” is the book for you. The poems in this collection will take you on a journey through the quiet, contemplative world of winter, where the snow whispers secrets and the cold wind stirs the soul. The poetry collection is highly recommended for all those readers who look forward to reading a collection that comes as a breath of freshness, unique perspectives, and subjects that are interesting, entertaining, and seem equally dreamy. While the book is likely to introduce the readers to a whole new perspective that comes through the words of the poet, it will also enthrall them with her uniqueness and the concise manner in which she uses her words to convey deeper thoughts.

She wants to see women treated as equals in society and have the same opportunities as men and to bring Indian mythology to life through her books so that even more people can learn about it and use it to change their own circumstances. Author Interview Akhila Saroha: I would like to begin by congratulating you on the publication of “Niyatinati.” How has the response to the book been so far? Aruna Shaibya: Thank you Akhila! I am getting very good response from the readers out there and I am very thankful to them for such a great response and reviews. I am very grateful to have all of you take some inspiration from my novel and bring some change in the society. Success comes the hard way so do the justice we have to work for it. No, matter what we must always follow the good and fight against bad. Ignoring what is going around us is not going to help any of us. So, we must fight for the good and make world a better place for the coming generation. Akhila Saroha: What led to the idea of writing “Niyatinati”? Were there any events that inspired the work? Aruna Shaibya: Yeah, this novel is related to some real-life events. Since, the day I am born I have seen the different colours and shades of life. Evil is spreading wide each day as most of us nowadays are just focusing ourselves and no, one wants to take interest to bring positive change in society. No, one wants to fight against the crime and violence in the society until it has happened to them and that’s when we all realize the importance of good karma and ultimate justice of niyati. Through this novel I am sending a message to the society that always fight for good and justice for the greater good of coming age and your next generation it will make our life peaceful and joyful. Akhila Saroha: How easy or difficult was it for you to decide the placement of ideas in “Niyatinati” and keep it simple to understand for the readers? Aruna Shaibya: No, it was not difficult and I think it is not much difficult to write and place the ideas in your novel when you know exactly what you want to convey and tell your readers. As an author, we do know how to create fictional and non-fictional stories. This novel of mine is non-fictional novel. It holds real-life events and experiences from my life so it came to me that it would be the perfect idea to put this in an inspirational novel. So, I was able to express emotions of each character and have put them in such an inspirational which all of the reader can understand easily in simple language. Akhila Saroha: What are your views about present-day writing? Do you think it does complete justice in depicting human nature in the light of “Niyatinati”? Aruna Shaibya: In present-day writing as an author, I want to make human society a better place for women. I hope to bring change to human society and make women seen as equal to men. I want to bring out the sinful things, crime and violence against women in society in the light of “Justice” and help women and society to stand and fight against crime and violence. Yes, it does complete justice in depicting human nature in the light of “Niyatinati”. We all get paid for karma whether it is good or bad. However, we must not rely on destiny and just sit there and do nothing. We must work hard for our dreams and goals. By, bringing change in ourselves we can bring some change in society. We should bring light to the bad things happening around us otherwise we will lose the peace in our life. Akhila Saroha: “Niyatinati” shows the uniqueness of your style of writing. Are there any authors that you enjoy reading or any books which are your favourites? Aruna Shaibya: Yes, it does. Thank you!!! I enjoy reading books and novels by Narendra Kohali. “Mahasamar” by Narendra Kohli which is a series of 9 books is my favourite and I love and enjoy reading it all the time. Akhila Saroha: How would you categorize “Niyatinati” as its appeal seems to be to a broad audience? Aruna Shaibya: “Niyati” is an inspirational non-fictional novel written for a social cause. It brings light to the unspoken reality of our society. In Niyatinati readers will find different phases of our lives and how life can change at any moment. Youth should learn about these parts of life. They should learn to take inspiration from such events in life like “Vivek” from this novel. In
