In routine life, human beings become so busy and involved that they forget to pay attention to the little details and miss out on the little things that can make significant differences when one talks about changing life or seeing life from a different perspective. This differentiated perspective makes a difference in the lives of those who see the world differently. In her book “The Hidden Gems,” the author Aman Talwar comes up with a different view of life where she harps upon recognizing the hidden gems in life and how these gems have big keys to happiness in them. Through her book, she opens people’s eyes to a different world and tries to highlight the little things that many may have been ignoring subconsciously and tries to make them realize them. In her short book of fewer than 100 pages, Talwar packs up different thoughts and ideas, which are supplemented by interesting pictures and titles. To add to the excitement, she applies different forms of writing to express her thoughts. Through these different forms, she creates an intangible rhythm that resonates in the senses of the readers, and they have many moments of realization when they agree with the author on a subconscious level. As the preface says, the book takes the readers on a “flight to the offbeat destinations,” where the only objective is to take a break from the routine of life and give some moments to introspect. Through different sections in “The Hidden Gems,” the author hints at how the modern day developments in technology and everyday priorities have taken over people’s lives and how, unknowingly, they have adapted to the new system accepting it as the new normal. “The Technological Maze” is worth mentioning here. Through the book, the readers are able to introspect, realize and understand the difference that life has and draw parallels with the past when life was simpler. The author does not exactly divide the book into chapters, she keeps them unnumbered and only focuses on delivering the message in a transparent manner which would give clarity and understanding to the readers. Other sections like “The Bygone era of Fairytales” and “Knight in Shining Armour” in “The Hidden Gems” take the readers on a nostalgic spin and take them back to their childhood days when they realized their hidden gems. The last part of “Food for Thought” and “Living the Moment” teaches a parting lesson to the readers and gives clarity to the message that the author wants to give. This book would instantly appeal to readers who like to read short and yet thought-provoking books that would set their minds to action. The other appealing factor would be the language that the author uses in her book. The language is simple, easy to understand and matches the vocabulary of any regular reader. The author in “The Hidden Gems” talks about different aspects of life that would take the readers away from the routine world which is dependent on and driven by technology. She talks of different ways like reading, taking time off and spending it with self and family, going close to nature to enjoy it instead of just going as a tourist, listening to the heart more often, talking about emotions instead of running away from them and striving to have a balanced approach towards life and all that comes with it. These ways would help the readers understand the gems that have been hidden due to the swift movement of life and the quick development of technology that somehow has increased materialism and reduced the depth of people’s thoughts. “The Hidden Gems” would make readers ponder over the points that the author has mentioned and would also instigate them to take action and try to alter their lives a little, if not too much. The author agrees with the fact that even a little change would make big differences, so even little changes can create waves in a person’s life. The readers can begin by making small changes and thus feel the magnitude as time passes. The book is recommended to all those readers who want to find the hidden gems in their lives and make their lives a little more happy than they are at present.

Life at large is a journey, as it is said, which is a plethora of experiences for the ones who have lived it and for those who look up to their elders for learning. When people undertake a journey in their lives, the experience becomes richer and much more diverse in terms of learning or understanding the different sides of the world. Aditya Raj Kapoor, in his book “Quest” Published by Evincepub Publishing creates this fascinating universe for the readers when he goes on the exploration of a distant land and writes all that he had seen during the course of his travel. What makes the book more interesting is the manner in which he undertakes the journey when, as the book says, people thought him to be joking. The honesty with which he narrates his journey and experience makes the readers connect with his work in no time and they are glued to the book. From the cover of the book, the readers understand the subject that the book explores and how close it is going to be to the author’s life. They are ready to read all that he experienced and tries to put it in words. In his from-the-heart response to the journey he undertakes, Kapoor comes across as a person who wants to share all he could understand from his trip. At the same time, he shares ample pictures and pictorial details to concretize all that he narrates. This helps the readers to understand and visualize the lands they might not have seen otherwise. The pictures also show how the author has tried to capture every moment he could and also the fact that “Quest” was a work in the making since long. Among other things, the readers appreciate Kapoor for pouring his heart and sharing every single detail he could have recorded or recalled while writing “Quest.” “Quest” at once shows the readers how passionate a person can be for his dream ventures and at the same time also gives a message to have faith in themselves if they want to make their dreams come true. Alongside, the readers forget that they are reading a book by a celebrity child who has grown up surrounded with the glamour and luxuries unimaginable for an ordinary person. They rather see a person who is humble, grounded and having the upbringing of any ordinary family. These qualities of Kapoor help the readers connect with him strongly and closely. They remain interested in reading all that he writes till the end. The introductions and foreword from eminent personalities serve the purpose of introducing Kapoor in a better light through different eyes and observations. Altogether, “Quest” would also be a book to inspire youngsters and all those who dream of undertaking a journey like Kapoor at some point in time in their lives. Since travel these days is trendy and prevalent, many readers would find this book inspirational and also helpful if they have Kapoor’s route on their bucket list. Likewise, the readers who want to read the first-hand experience of traveling on an unknown land would also find this book capturing their interests from the beginning. The honesty with which the author writes and does not think even for once before writing the details of his experiences makes the book seem to be an autobiographical account to quite an extent. Apart from this, it also helps the readers get familiar with the various challenges life and can throw at anyone and the role mental strength and determination plays in shaping a person’s experiences. At the same time, “Quest” also appears to be a journey of self-discovery. When the readers examine it on a metaphorical level, they notice the growth of Kapoor as a person. He tells the readers how his habits changed and how he became self-dependent and organized. This may for once also suggest the book to be a bildungsroman of the non-fictional world. These factors make the work multi-dimensional. It also gives the hidden message about how being a solo trip can help a person become a better version of what they were earlier. In light of this, the quest of finding self can be more fruitful and, at the same time, be an inspiration to the readers to step out of their comfort zones and explore the unknown realms of life. Therefore, the readers should try reading “Quest” not just for the account of a journey a person takes into strange lands where he doesn’t even know the language, but also to understand how he was influenced by it and how his life changed for the better. They would also appreciate how even though the author was from a privileged family, yet he chose to step out of the comfort zone to achieve what he had been dreaming for a long time.

Book Review: Til Death We Do Part
Life is more about its unpredictability and less about what a person plans or looks forward to. In his novel “Til Death We Do Part,” Bruno Beaches talks of this idea through a plot that for once does seem linear and arranged in an ideal manner for a reader to understand. But on digging into the lives of the protagonist Pablo, and his wife, Delilah, they are able to trace the underlying messages in the text and realize how the author has tactfully woven the complex situations of life into the plot in an effortless manner. Through the life of Pablo, Beaches shows how life can turn from good to bad at any moment and what may have seen as impossible fits into the circumstances instantly. Simultaneously, the author also brings up critical issues, which are a burning subject of the day. These issues include the usage of drugs, the community reaction to it, the discrimination and distrust among people, the prejudices and sympathy going hand in hand, the resultant effect on society, the delicate human relationships, and the basic theme of unpredictability of life. The title, for once, may be deceptive for the readers, but as they finish the book, they understand that none other titles would do absolute justice. Beaches takes his time and patiently develops the characters and explains their lives and events in a parallel mode. This makes it easier for the readers to comprehend the plot that he weaves and the close-to-life situations he creates. The readers who are interested in reading a fictional plot that has delicate touches of reality can pick “Til Death We Do Part” and understand the untold complications life can bring at any step. At the same time, it would help younger readers understand that life is not limited to the rosy stuff only, and grown-up readers would be able to connect the dots of reality even more closely.
