Mamta Banerjee Injured After Filing Nomination – Allegations for Attack

Trinamool Congress (TMC) Supremo, Mamta Banerjee, was attacked after filing her nomination from Nandigram. Popularly known as Didi, Banerjee was attacked while she was performing a Puja in the temple. According to her, she was manhandled by 4-5 men, and her foot was hurt. As she was inside the temple, there was no security around her for her protection. As a result, she had to cancel her plans to stay at Nandigram the following night and had to return to Kolkata. Eyewitness Chitranjan Das who was present at Nandigram’s Birulia where WB CM suffered the injury, said, “I was there, she (CM) was sitting inside her car, but the door was open. The door closed after it touched a poster. Nobody pushed or hit… there was no one near the door.”

Later on, Banerjee also complaint of chest pain and was rushed to the hospital.

The BJP labelled this act as a drama, a pre-planned conspiracy by the West Bengal Chief Minister in an attempt to gain public sympathy. They said that Banerjee knew that she would lose, and BJP’s win was definite and, therefore, the action.

The Election Commission of India intervened in the matter and sought a report regarding the incident from the Chief Secretary. In response, the members of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad protested at the Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research after CM Mamata Banerjee suffered an injury in Nandigram. Later on, state governor Jagdeep Dhankar visited the state CM at the hospital to know her well-being.

The elections of West Bengal are scheduled to take place from March 27, 2021 to May 2, 2021, in 8 phases.
