The Rise Insight: Firstly, Congratulations on your book, “In Conversation with Light and Darkness” What responses are you getting from this book of yours? Please share your experience about this book.

Ambika Bhardwaj: I am grateful to the overwhelming response the book has gifted me. This being my first book, the experience was confusing and exciting at the same time. But in the end when the book lands up in the hands of a reader who needs these words in their healing journey, that is enough for me

The Rise Insight: What inspired you to write your first book.?

Ambika Bhardwaj: In my journey, moving to the mountains wasn’t merely a physical move but one that also involved moving to and climbing the mountains within. When all the city hustle faded away in the sleepy Himalayan village of Manali, I started sharing my midnight scribbles with the world online. Soon strangers from all walks of life began to resonate with her words and shared their life stories. Our Instagram page, Dastaan-e-musafir, became a movement of exploration between the inner journey of poetry and the outer journey of the mountains.

The Rise Insight: You’ve given a very interesting title to your book, which is very catchy too so, what made you go for this title for your book?

Ambika Bhardwaj: In Conversation with light and darkness is a collection of hundred poems and ten short stories. It is based on the belief that each of us carry light and darkness within us. Light stands for healing and darkness represents the psychological shadow work that one needs to do. It is popularly also known as “the work” or the “inner work”. If healing could be words, then these are the ones that came to me on my journey. Thus, birthing the title of the book.

The Rise Insight: Very few Authors are coming out with this genre these days however you did so, which I believe is a good step. So, why did you choose this category to write book and not something else?

Ambika Bhardwaj: In our  conversation with light and darkness we often look back at our lives. In this process, we hopefully see-through certain patterns, coping mechanism, illusions and a lot more than one has buried forgotten within. The book dwells deeply in this process of truly understanding, accepting and forgiving past versions of ourselves to birth a new one. Thus, beginning to take baby steps on the path of healing and building a better understanding of mental health— which I feel is a part of taking responsibility of ourselves as adults.

The Rise Insight: While reading your book, I found that this story had really strong. which had greatly impressed me and thus I would like you to explain the overall of your book!

Ambika Bhardwaj: The book, In Conversations with Light and Darkness, is a shrine of hundred poems and ten short stories. It dives deep into childhood trauma and how it branches out into our adult selves and relationships. The book is a personal journal of destroying, re—defining, and integrating the new self with forgiveness. Healing is a confusing journey, more often a lonely one. May this be your companion in attending your own funeral(s) and rebirth(s).

The Rise Insight: Next, I want you to tell us about some of those writers, who inspires you & whom you follow!

Ambika Bhardwaj: Rumi and Sufism has inspired and awakened a lot of my thoughts. Other than that, Charles Dickens, Virginia Woolf, Ruskin Bond, Jerry Pinto, and a lot of Urdu poets like Ghalib, Meer Taqi Meer, Jaun Elia have been running in my blood since generations.

The Rise Insight: Is there any message which you would like to convey to your readers? Or any piece of advice, which you would like to give to the readers out there!

Ambika Bhardwaj: It took me a year to finally make this decision. Publishing your first book is a confusing process. There’s a lot of material online but that adds to the confusion. You will talk to many experts and each one will have different opinions. And therefore, by the end of it, I realised that it becomes a priority to make it easy for oneself. To research well and take as much help as needed to wade through the process rather than just waiting. For me, it was more about the book being out there rather than who got it out there.

The Rise Insight: Are there any other books being worked by you? Please let us know about your future projects.

Ambika Bhardwaj: I am writing a fantasy novel. The working title is “Small before the mountains I stood.” It’s about a girl called Faith who climbs mountains to ask questions and surprisingly gets a life lesson-based answer each time.

The Rise Insight: Thank you so much for answering all my questions. All the very best to you for future and your book too!

Ambika Bhardwaj: Thank you for your time and energy!
