Has India’s second Covid-19 wave reached its apex? Is this the end, or will things get worse? When you look at today’s statistics, these are some of the questions that will come to mind. In the last 24 hours, India saw the highest-ever single-day rise in new coronavirus infections, with 1,84,372 Covid-19 cases recorded.

While the federal government has called for mini-containment areas, state governments consider absolute lockdowns or strict curfews. All eyes are on Maharashtra, which will be subjected to a strict corona curfew starting today at 8 p.m. The initiative to “Break the Chain” will run until May 1st.

The prevalence of the double mutant virus, and its potential connection to the recent Covid surge, is the most concerning news today.

According to an Indian Express study, the ‘double mutant’ strain was found in over 60% of Maharashtra cases. They also say that a connection to the sharp rise in corona cases in Maharashtra can’t be fully ruled out.

On the other hand, in UttarpradeshOn Wednesday, pilgrims gathered at Har ki Pauri Ghat in Haridwar for the third ‘Shahi Snan’ of the Kumbh Mela 2021. Officials claim that over 10 lakh people had already attended the Kumbh despite the Covid rules as of noon.

According to sources, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is considering a strict curfew. On April 18, the Chief Minister of Karnataka will hold an all-party meeting. Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has so far ruled out any lockdown. In this way can see that the country is going to a second strict lockdown.
