The ICC nominated Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant for his recent test cricket series against Australia. Other nominations include England’s Joe Root and Ireland’s Paul Stirling.
He is nominated in consideration of the milestone performances, including taking significant wickets in 3 tests as and when he had the opportunity. The young 23-year-old also displayed his batting prowess with 29 runs off 40 balls in the second test, 36 runs off 67 balls, and 97 runs off 118 balls in the third test, and 23 runs off 29 balls, and a not out batting in the second innings at 89 runs off 138 balls in the fourth test. These scores were the deal-breakers and brought a historic victory series win to India.
The ICC states its motive to “recognise and celebrate the best performances from both male and female cricketers across all forms of international cricket throughout the year.” The ICC “Player of the Month” award is given in male and female cricket categories to recognize and encourage the sportsman spirit. The winners are chosen after a vote by former players, broadcasters, and journalists worldwide.

Natarajan (India), Rishabh Pant (India), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Afghanistan), Ravichandran Ashwin (India), Joe Root (England), Steve Smith (Australia), Marizanne Kapp (South Africa), Nadine de Klerk (South Africa), Nida Dar (Pakistan) were the players selected earlier this week, and after that, Pant, Root, and Stirling were shortlisted.
