Originally titled ‘Love vs Arranged,’ as I narrated, she spontaneously coined the title ‘Known Devil, Unknown Ghost.’ Amusingly, she remarked that both of us ended up marrying an ‘Unknown Ghost,’ and our journey together has been an adventure. She found the original plot too serious and dull. I admired her spontaneity and embraced her suggestion as the story’s title. Inspired by her insight, I embarked on a complete rewrite, transforming the narrative into a comical romantic drama. Q. 05. Akki: As a reader, I find a deep connection with stories that feature believable characters. Throughout my readings, authors like John Grisham, Amish Tripathi, Chetan Bhagat, and Ravi Subramanian have captivated me through their narratives populated with characters that feel real, instantly drawing me into their stories. During my writing process, I adopted a focused approach, dedicating my attention to one story at a time. This method allowed me to meticulously develop each character to be as authentic as possible. For ‘Das Babu,’ a fictional representation of a true story, maintaining the characters’ originality was crucial. ‘Akinova’s Akhil’ was inspired by a close friend renowned for his charisma and adeptness at managing multiple relationships. Aman Talwar: All the facets that I have written about in my book are primarily based on our day to day living. These bejewelled moments are scattered all around us. All I did was tried to unravel the aura knitted around our thought process and carve them into words. I truly believe in the magic of words and genuinely hope that the way the experience of writing this book has helped me elicit these scattered precious pearls, in a similar manner the readers of the book are also able to gaze beyond the accustomed patterns of living. Akhila Saroha: How easy or difficult was it for you to write content that held relevance for all and also remain objective about them in your collection “The Hidden Gems”? Aman Talwar: The process of observing the varied aspects of life revolving around us, weaving the divergent line of thinking and stream lining it to give it the right direction is a thought provoking process. But I had a strong belief that since the content of my book talks about those dimensions of our day to day living which we all experience, it will help establish an easy connect. I just tried to bring to light a unique perspective that propels one to look beyond the conventional practices of living. Akhila Saroha: What are your views about present-day writing? Do you think it does complete justice in depicting human nature in the light of “The Hidden Gems”? Aman Talwar: I feel writing has evolved over the years. Firstly, I think now we have more number of platforms providing an opportunity to the aspiring writers and at the same time giving the readers a satisfaction to read a variety of content. Now one gets to witness a wide range of literary work spanning from topics concerning the society as a whole and at the same time revolving around the thoughts and expressions of an individual as well. Also, I feel that somewhere down the line, the writing style has become a bit simpler, which helps in establishing a connect with the larger audience. Human nature is like a labyrinth, each person has a different perspective of looking at it and decoding it. Aman Talwar: First and foremost, it’s my mother’s literary skills and an excellent command over the language that has made me admire the power of the art of writing and in the ability that words can create magic. I also am an ardent reader of Jane Austen’s novels. I feel her writing transports you into a world where one begins to identify with the literary characters and to top it with such powerful use of language, wherein a phrase itself is sufficient to convey the essence of the story. Pride and Prejudice is one of her masterpiece that justifies the aforementioned. Akhila Saroha: How would you categorize “The Hidden Gems” as its appeal seems to be to a broad audience? Aman Talwar: While penning down this book, my intent was to carve it in a way that it has a wider reach. As I mentioned earlier, since this book delves into the diverse dimensions of the human arena, I feel it has in it something that everyone will be able to identify with it.
